Tools You’ll Need:
Double boiler or heat-safe pan
Refrigerator
Mixing bowl
Hand mixer or KitchenAid
Spatula
Piping bag or zip lock bags
Airtight containers for storage
Digital scale for precise measurements
Plastic beaker (for mixing fragrance and stabilizer, if applicable)
Step-by-Step
1. Melt the Butters and Oils:
Place 250g of shea butter and 100g of mango butter in a heat-safe pan or double boiler.
Heat on low until completely melted. Be sure not to overheat, as this can affect the final texture.
Once melted, transfer the mixture to a bowl and place in the refrigerator for 1 hour to cool. This ensures the shea butter sets without any graininess.
2. Prep the Oils:
While the butter mixture cools, prepare your oils. In a separate beaker, measure out:
30g Jojoba Oil
30g Avocado Oil
30g coconut oil
30g Grapeseed Oil
30g Argan Oil
5g Vitamin E Oil
Set these aside to add during the whipping process.
Optional:Flaxseed Gel – 100g Adds hydration and enhances the whipped texture.
How to Make Flaxseed Gel:
Combine 1/4 cup flaxseeds and 2 cups water in a pot, boil, and stir occasionally.
After 7-10 minutes, strain the gel through a fine sieve and let it cool.
3. Whip the Base:
Remove the cooled butter from the refrigerator and transfer it to a large mixing bowl.
Using a hand mixer or stand mixer, begin whipping the butter on low speed for 5-10 minutes.
Slowly incorporate the pre-measured oils (jojoba, avocado, grapeseed, argan, and vitamin E) into the whipped butter.
Increase the mixer speed to medium and whip for an additional 7-10 minutes, scraping the sides of the bowl as needed.
4. Customization and Final Whipping
By opting for clay as your colorant, you’re choosing a safer, more beneficial alternative that aligns with the ethos of clean, organic skincare. Not only will your whipped body mousse look visually stunning, but it will also help nourish and care for your skin in the most natural way possible.
If you’d like to color your mousse, add (0.5g) of French Pink Clay,or any kind of clay now and mixing gradually until you reach your desired shade.
Where to Buy: You can purchase the French Pink Clay I recommend from this link.
Brazilian Purple Clay it can be purchased from this link.
For fragrance, add 1g of your chosen essential oil. If you want a shimmer effect, add 1g of mica powder.
Continue whipping the mixture on medium-high for another 7-10 minutes until you achieve a thick, fluffy, whipped cream texture.
Both the clay and rose petal powder will provide extra skin benefits, such as gentle detoxification and nourishment.
5. Final Adjustments:
For a deep pink hue, add 2-3g of rose petal powder. You can also combine both for a more dynamic, natural coloring. Adjust the quantities based on the depth of color you want.
Where to Buy: The rose petal powder I used, you can find it here.
At this point, your mousse should have a thick, buttery consistency with a smooth texture.
If it feels too greasy, you can add a small amount of arrowroot powder (optional) to balance the oils.
Let the whipped body mousse sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes to further thicken.
For a subtle peachy-pink hue with a touch of shimmer, you can add Blushing Peach UltraSparkle Mica. This mica adds a beautiful shimmer, making the body mousse both luxurious in texture and visually stunning.
Add 1-2g of Blushing Peach UltraSparkle Mica into your mousse while whipping for a soft, glowing peach hue with a sparkling finish.
Where to Buy: Purchase the Blushing Peach UltraSparkle Mica from BrambleBerry here.
6. Packaging:
Using a piping bag or a zip lock bag with the tip cut off, fill your containers with the mousse.
Optional layering: If you’ve colored a portion of the mousse, you can pipe two layers – a base color ( soft pink) and a colored top layer for a beautiful presentation.
Fill each jar to 100g by weight and ensure the lids are secured tightly.
Customization Options:
Scents: Customize your whipped body mousse with essential oils like lavender for calming effects, rose for a luxurious feel, or citrus for a fresh, invigorating scent.
Color Variations:
For a soft pink hue, add French Pink Clay.
For a light purple tint, use Brazilian Purple Clay.
If you prefer shimmer, add a touch of eco-friendly mica for a glowing effect.
Texture Adjustments:
For a lighter, more airy texture, whip for a longer time.
To create a denser, richer texture, reduce the whipping time slightly.
